This tool calculates the land cover extent (square kilometres), absolute change in area, and relative difference in area between land cover extents of two different years. The land cover classification must use unique identifiers/codes that are the same between the opening and closing land cover timeframes. For example, "10" in the opening land cover may correspond to "agriculture." In the closing land cover, the same code and land cover pairing must be used.
The output produced is a map of the opening land cover showing the areas where there was a negative, positive, or no change in land cover extent.
Please ensure that your land cover shapefiles are in a projected coordinate system (PCS) such as WGS 1984 Mercator. Having the data in a PCS enables area-based calculations to be performed on the shapefile.
Two land cover options are available:
For all the shapefile input options, a zip file of the shapefile is required. This zip file should include several files associated with one shapefile, as seen below for the file Country.shp.
If the option One shapefile with multiple fields is selected above, upload the zip file of the land cover dataset.
If the option Two separate shapefiles is selected above, upload the zip file of the opening land cover dataset here.
If the option Two separate shapefiles is selected above, upload the zip file of the closing land cover dataset here.
Specify the field/column name within the land cover dataset which contains information for opening land cover.
